A few pointers for steam

In my previous post I promoted Steam, showing you some of the good things about it. With this I want to tell you why I fucking hate it. Steam in its entirety is a GREAT idea, but the idea doesn't come to form entirely. Like a bug tried to imagine it. Ok that is insulting it a little too much, but the thing is. Don't buy non Valve games on Steam. There is no benefit for doing so. Buy Valve games on Steam that is what it is meant for, all other games buy them elsewhere and you will still be able to use the steam overlay and almost all of the features that you would get with buying it through steam. Their prices are pretty much the same as anywhere else, and if you have a hard copy you can let your friend borrow it, and more people can play the same game without wasting tons of money (games are overpriced)

Games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, will NOT work well with steam. In fact, it doesn't work very well with 64 bit operating systems especially Windows 7 and Vista. Games are likely to crash. Here are a few detailed pointers on what not to do with steam.

1. Never update a game you purchased on steam with a non-steam update, even if it is the legitimate game update.
This will cause you to need a disc to play the game, and since you don't have one you are in trouble. Luckily, if you right click on the game and click properties, you can verify the integrity of the game cache and set it back to normal.
2. Don't even try to send steam a ticket.
They will never get to your problem, and most of the problems you can find the answers to on the forum for the specific game on steam. Actual people (even though they are more direct assholes) will tell you how THEY fixed it. Steam will alternate between scratching their nuts and head and tell you to fuck off.
3. Don't try to play older games on a newer system with Steam. There will be compatibility issues as is with games such as KOTOR, Steam just kind of sits a dead donkey in the middle of your ability to change what you need to.
